Ray Davies @ The Lorain Palace Theatre 3/12/10

Ray Davies at The Lorain Palace Theatre – March 12, 2010

Everything that is raucous, brilliant, humorous, and sweet about rock and roll was rolled into Ray Davies sold-out performance at The Lorain Palace this past Friday, March 12th.  If you missed it, shame on you!

The lead singer of The Kinks, and one of rock and roll’s most authentic genius composers, played a mostly acoustic two hour “sing-a-long” show (you couldn’t have stopped the audience if you tried, so Ray graciously let them roar through their favorite Kinks songs).  The material included some of his solo material, but to the audiences delight, a hefty dose of Kinks favorites such as “You Really Got Me”, “Dedicated Follower of Fashion”, “Victoria”, “Lola”, “Celluloid Heroes” and an anthem-like “Dead End Street”.  The audience and Ray, together, processed that song as if we were a giant punk band spitting out our rage at the world.

What a collection of Cleveland faces moving through the lobby to see our rock hero…Daffy Dan, Tom Lash and Kevin McMahon (of Lucky Pierre and Prick), Denis DeVito from Cats on Holiday, Cleveland Council Prez Martin Sweeney with TWO beers in hand, and Frank Foti from Omnia Audio, just to mention a few.  It was a surreal flashback to hangin’ in the lobby of the Agora in the 70s.

One interesting factoid to Kinks fans…before dedicating the song “Two Sisters”, about sibling rivalry, to brother Dave, Ray let us know that Dave is feeling great after suffering a stroke a few years ago.  He looks forward to performing with Dave onstage again.  Start queuing for that show NOW.

We were there and couldn’t have gone to a better concert. Ray was everything your review said. My husband was even one of the lucky ones who got his autograph for his copy of the book, Rock N Roll & The Cleveland Connection.
