You need a rain barrel

We all need a rain barrel, and with the City of Cleveland providing rain barrels for residents at no cost, you have no excuse not to have one.

Here’s a little about rain barrels:

Rain barrels are one method to reduce the impacts of storm water on our regional drainage system. The inability to effectively deal with storm water has resulted in flooded homes and streets, more pollutants entering our waterways, and serious erosion problems. Residents can benefit by cost savings when watering gardens with their collected rain water as well as a potential credit on their storm water bill. In the near future the NEORSD, as regional storm water managers, will be collecting a monthly fee to do regional storm water management.

  1. I read the press release, and there’s no mention of whether a diverter system to keep connected to the storm water system is included with the barrel. I have 2 rain barrels and diverters, and you need the diverter as the barrels will fill up if you get rain a few days in a row. If you let the barrel overflow you could end up with a wet basement or worse.
