Free danceconcert of pop favorites
Right now we’re focused on Inlet’s perennially popular FREE Cain Park Concert. For Cain Park, Inlet has a way of mixing their professional dancers with students from their Summer Dance Intensive, a mix that seems to call forth Artistic Director Bill Wade’s best efforts and results in an entertaining, engaging concert, not a student recital.
For the benefit of those who’ve managed to miss Wade’s work for the last 16 years, here’s a rundown of some of the repertoire in the upcoming concert and how it reflects Inlet’s aesthetic.
BALListic (2001) uses physio balls in a Pilobolus style skit. Six dancers in little tasseled caps jealously guard seven precious orange balls; a masked seventh dancer enters and amusing, amazing hi-jinx proceed. Like Pilobolus, Wade and his dancers have come up with inventive and surprising uses for their props, the physio balls.
Ascension (2006) uses Pilobolus style partnering in what we see as a very physical meditation on the idea that we rise up on the shoulders of our predecessors.
Memoriate (2001) honors the elderly and their caregivers. It exemplifies Wade’s talent for making dances about important social issues.
Create (2009) is something Wade has described as “pop modern dance, something fun as a concert opener for schools and other audiences new to modern dance.” It was created on students last summer and later “upgraded” for the company.
The Cain Park concert also includes 3 new dances set on the Summer Intensive students by company members Mikaela Clark, Elizabeth Pollert, and Justin Stentz. Pay special attention to Clark’s choreography, for you will be hearing more from us about her soon.
Inlet Dance Theatre will perform at Cain Park Evans Amphitheater. Kids Matinee will be 1PM Wed 7/28/10 and Full Concert will be 8PM Thu 7/29/10. Admission is FREE but come early if you want a seat in the pavilion. http://www.inletdance.org.
