Tue 10/5 @ 4 – 6PM
Take a good look at how to solve issues in our community at Leadership, Accountability and the Lessons of the 1960s Black Freedom Movement: Annual Forum Commemorating the Public Service Career of the Late Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones on Tue 10/5.
Details:
From 1963-1966, Congressman John Lewis was Chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) which was largely responsible for organizing student activism in the civil rights movement.
Every day, Cleveland’s political and civic leaders face challenges of accountability in public education, law enforcement and politics. From the Anthony Sowell case to the transformation of the Cleveland Municipal School District, this forum will focus on the relevance of the grass-roots “organizing tradition”, the philosophy of group-centered leadership, and the inclusive gender politics of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and other leading organizations of the civil rights movement as a framework for thinking about African American politics, leadership and accountability today.
