Two big topics to discuss on Sat 11/6: What’s the current state of sculpture? And, how do we teach sculpture? Immerse yourself in the intellectual side of scuplture at this free, day-long conference presented by The Cleveland Institute of Art, The Sculpture Center and Edinboro University of PA.

This event has been convened, in part, to showcase the new SculptureX (Sculpture Xchange) networking site, as well as promote the 2011 sculpture exhibitions to be held at TSC and the Erie Art Museum and juried by the art critic David Carrier. Artist Jeanne Silverthorne, a sculpture professor at the graduate school of Columbia University (NYC) and the School of Visual Arts (NYC) who shows with David McKee Gallery (NYC), will deliver the conference’s keynote address. Two open, roundtable discussions will be held throughout the afternoon: one on the “state” of sculpture, the other on teaching sculpture. Attendees’ input by dialogue throughout the afternoon will be crucial.
