How habitat fragmentation affects amphibians: Scientist Lecture Series @ Holden Arb

Wed 11/10 @ 7 – 9PM

The Holden Arboretum’s 2010 – 2011 Scientist Lecture Series explores some of the impacts of forest loss and habitat fragmentation on biodiversity. (Did you know the US loses about one million acres of forested land to developers every year?) On Wed 10/11 find out how amphibians are affected by habitat loss.

Info:

Amphibian populations worldwide are experiencing unprecedented rates of decline and extinction. In North America, many of these declines are due to human alteration of the environment. Mike Benard, PhD, will discuss how habitat fragmentation affects amphibians, and will include a discussion of his research on amphibians in The Holden Arboretum and Cleveland Metroparks. An evolutionary ecologist who uses amphibians to understand how species and populations adapt to and persist in the face of environmental variation, Benard is an assistant professor in the biology department at Case Western Reserve University.
