About the show:
To create a surface is to start from the beginning. The work in this show has been constructed—woven, layered, stitched, and built up—and the result is a strong group of work that pays tribute to tradition but is not defined by it. The makers construct the work, and also the context in which the viewer experiences it. Relationships in each piece create tension—between fantasy and reality, duality and polarity, warp and weft—but their physicality creates a relationship to the viewer that makes each personal and approachable.
