Five East Side suburbs have decided to work together providing mutual aid in case of an emergency. Shaker Heights, Beachwood, Euclid, South Euclid and University Heights are establishing EDGE — Eastside Departments Group Enforcement — which will share police personnel, services and equipment. Fire departments often share services, with municipalities helping one another when an emergency occurs, but now police departments will do the same. Five police departments will be able to combine SWAT teams into one unit. Sharing, after all, is caring.
