Race @ Beck Center for the Arts

Fri 10/21 – Sun 11/20

Looking for theater with substance? One dealing with the hard questions of our time? Then you gotta see Race @ the Beck Center for the Arts, opening on Thu 10/21. Regional premiere.

Synopsis: “From America’s foremost playwright, David Mamet, comes his most explosive four-letter word yet. Race. This riveting new play by Mamet, a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning author, tells the story of three attorneys, two black and one white, who must defend a wealthy, white executive charged with raping a black woman. Mamet’s scalpel-edged intelligence and corkscrew plot twists raise issues that offer ample nutrition for full-course, post-theater dinner conversation.”

The Fri 10/28 and Sun 11/6 performances will be followed by post-show discussions. The 10/28 session will be moderated by Cool Cleveland‘s Thomas Mulready and will feature a panel including former Cuyahoga County Commissioner, attorney and actor Peter Lawson Jones, and Cool Cleveland columnist and Executive Director at Neighborhood Solutions, Mansfield Frazier. The 11/6 panel will be moderated by Ideastream producer and announcer, Dee Perry of Cleveland’s NPR station, WCPN 90.3FM.
