Please be careful!

Please be careful!

Cleveland City Council has passed an ordinance, which will become law if Mayor Frank Jackson doesn’t veto it, making it a crime to incite a riot (already against the law, by the way), and specifically identifying “Electronic Media Devices” such as computers and cell phones as criminal tools.

The law, if not vetoed, will probably be challenged by the American Civil Liberties Union and others. In the meantime, if an electronic source such as Cool Cleveland promotes a cool event that happens to get out of hand, it’s possible that online media sources, newspaper online forums, TV & radio station websites, government news sites, and even blogs and RSS feeds, could be targeted. Yow!

So if you do forward our Cool Cleveland events, news, videos and cool tips, please be careful. And if you show up at any of the cool events we turn you on to, be sure not to start a riot.

We’re still recommending you download and use our new mobile apps for iPhone and Android. Heck, you can even win up to $500 if you do.

But you may also want to drop a polite note to Mayor Jackson here: mayorsactioncenter@city.cleveland.oh.us or post your comment to his site here: http://www.city.cleveland.oh.us/CityofCleveland/Home/contact/mayor or send a nice note to Cleveland City Council here: http://www.clevelandcitycouncil.org/contact-form.aspx
