Rock Hall Announces 2012 Inductees

Let the celebrations begin. Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced their 2012 Inductees, who will join such esteemed company as Chuck Berry, Janis Joplin, Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles and U2 in the museum on Lake Erie.

And because the highly anticipated and respected Induction Ceremony will once again be broadcast on HBO and take place in Cleveland in the Spring of 2012, the celebration is sure to exceed expectations. To give you an idea, have a look at CoolCleveland’s video from the Red Carpet at the 2009 Induction Ceremonies, also held in Cleveland here.

The 2012 Rock Hall Inductees are:

* Beastie Boys

* Donovan

* Guns N’ Roses

* Laura Nyro

* Red Hot Chili Peppers [pictured]

* The Small Faces/The Faces

* Freddie King

* Don Kirshner

* Cosimo Matassa

* Tom Dowd

* Glyn Johns

This year’s nominees were stronger than in many recent years. The Rock Hall’s requirement that an artist must have released a single or album at lest 25 years ago means that we’re looking at artists who came up in 1987, after all. Freddie King gains entrance into the Rock Hall as an Early Influence, and Don Kirshner takes the nonperformer award, the Ahmet Ertegun Award. The Award for Musical Excellence goes to New Orleans engineer and studio owner Cosimo Matassa, Atlantic Records engineer and innovative producer Tom Dowd, and engineer and producer Glyn Johns, who’s name shows up on albums by artists like The Who, The Clash, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and many others.

Better luck next year to the rest of the 2012 Nominees:
·    The Cure
·    Eric B. & Rakim
·    Heart
·    Joan Jett and The Blackhearts
·    Rufus with Chaka Khan
·    The Spinners
·    Donna Summer
·    War
