Getting Carried Away – CC Writers Sound Off on CIFF

Getting Carried Away
CC Writers Sound Off on CIFF

Even though there are but a few days left of the Cleveland International Film Fest, the Fest is hardly winding down. There still are plenty of thought-provoking movies to see, panel discussions to hear and popcorn to munch on.

Our writers have been busy watching films and taking notes (and, apparently, meeting directors — see photo of writer Alex Sukhoy and Of Two Minds director Doug Blush above). Read the reviews and catch some films by this Sunday.

The Second Execution of Romell Broom

“It took German documentary filmmaker Michael Verhoeven to come to Ohio and make a film that examines the death penalty. In the end, The Second Execution of Romell Broom, which had its world premiere at the Cleveland International Film Festival on Monday, raises as many questions as it answers in regards to the guilt or innocence of the title character…” Read Mansfield Frazier’s review here.

A People Uncounted

“Last night, at the Cleveland International Film Festival, Paul and I saw the Canadian film A People Uncounted, which was haunting…” Read Claudia Taller’s review here.

Of Two Minds

“According to the film, ‘over five million Americans have bipolar disorder.’ In this movie, we meet half a dozen of them, who reveal to us how they first discovered that something was off, how they related the information to their loved ones, what they do for a living and, mostly, how they get through their days…” Read the review from Alex Sukhoy here.

Brooklyn Castle

“Brooklyn Castle is a inspirational documentary by director/filmmaker Katie Dellamaggiore that felt more like a great movie with actors and plot twists. But it was a documentary, with real people dealing with difficult situations…” Read the review from Carol Drummond here.
