Wooster Jam 2012

Fri 4/20 – Sat 4/21

Free Unconventional Multidisciplinary Fest

Organized by The College of Wooster students working with the Center for Entrepreneurship (C4E) under the guidance and supervision of James Levin, the co-founder of IngenuityFest and founder of Cleveland Public Theatre, this year’s Wooster Jam 2012 festival of music and the arts will return to the historic Wayne County Fairgrounds on Fri 4/20 and Sat 4/21/2012 with a totally free, totally unprecedented family fest.

Featuring an outrageously broad range of over 300 artistic and cultural samplings, from the big band fusion sounds of Uzizi to to historical storyteller Jim Bowsher, from the nationally acclaimed Ohio Light Opera to the Cedar Valley Cloggers, from Pakistani dance to Irish folk music, this year’s Wooster Jam promises head-spinning variety for everyone in the extended family.

Also collaborating is the Wooster Ethnic Fair, known as the WE Fair, and the Wayne Center for the Arts, in an effort to keep things family-friendly. A spinning and deejay workshop led by Progressive Arts Alliance will offer hands-on training for kids in turntablism, beat juggling and scratching.

Promising “folk, jazz, rock and roll, cloggers, deejaying, theatre, dance, magic, illusions, poetry, storytelling, painting, chalk art, sculpture, installations, photography and much more at several distinct and unconventional venues at the Fairgrounds,” organizers will donate half the beer proceeds to the People to People Ministry.

New this year is VoiceFest, an a capella competition showcasing a capella groups from Oberlin College, The Ohio State University, Kent State University, The College of Wooster, and others, all competing for a cash prize (and bragging rights, no doubt!)

Designed as an end-of-semester blow-off-some-steam and put your thinking cap on type of family entertainment event, this free event will take place from 4PM to midnight on Friday April 20, and from noon to 11PM on April 21 (in collaboration with the Wooster Ethnic Fair during the afternoon).  Free shuttles will transport students from the campus to the Fairgrounds throughout the two days.
