On the West Side of Cleveland there is a hidden gem that’s just a stone’s throw away from downtown Cleveland. Those who know about it are lucky, and those who don’t should learn more about this awesome little town. It’s one of the coolest places in Cleveland, resembling a more modern Chagrin Falls with more to do in a smaller area.
From the diverse array of restaurants to the family owned shops in the area, Tremont is a family friendly and innovative city that incorporates architecture from the past and present.
There are several buildings with painted murals that give the town a laid back, yet creative atmosphere.
Art galleries sprinkled throughout the streets display elegant work which can be seen by those passing by, and some with colorful designs on their exterior. They spice up the town by adding color to the streets, and also show the creative side of the neighborhood.
The multitude of diverse restaurants in Tremont reflects on the culture of the neighborhood. When we got a chance to talk with Niko Semertsidis, the chairman of the Tremont Greek Fest, he told us a couple of great places in town to go eat.Watch the video here.
Michael Symon, Cleveland’s own Iron Chef, has a restaurant called Lolita which is a great place to get drinks. The Loop, which is a ten second walk from the Greek orthodox church of the annunciation, has great coffee and great service. He also told us that Parallax, right across the street from the Loop, is a great place to take a date.
The place that stands out the most to us is Sokolowskis University Inn, a cafeteria style restaurant right next to the I90 highway. We both tried their renowned perogies and were blown away. They were phenomenal. The side dishes were also fantastic along with the meal. It was very quick, and they gave you a lot of food for your money. If nothing else, you definitely want to make the trip and stop here.
If you’re looking for a place to relax you should head over to Lincoln Park to take a casual stroll, or to just sit and enjoy the beautiful scenery. There is also a gazebo and a neighborhood map in the park to help you find what you are looking for in the town.
Tremont is also home to several great events like the Tremont Greek Festival on Memorial Day Weekend which is always filled with great food, dancing, and rich Greek culture. The Fest runs from noon on thru 9PM on Sun 5/27.
Tremont is a great little neighborhood, and there is almost nothing better than spending a beautiful day walking around the streets and visiting all of the cool spots around town. So spend some time in Tremont when you get the chance, you wont be disappointed with what you find.
