Of All Things

10.01-10.08.25

 It’s Obvious

Of course, you could’ve guessed Stan Hywet would have an Ohio Mart, and that the CBG might host a Renaissance Night, or that the Morgan Conservatory would raise money with a paper fashion show. And that Boo at the Zoo would return to delight the kiddies.

But get this: Cleveland Vegan Society’s VegFest is moving outdoors to Tremont. The 2022 FRONT Fellows finally get their capstone show. And of all things we really need these days, you’ve got four straight days of laughter at the Cleveland Comedy Festival.

Of all the things you can do, it’s time to pay attention: the Happy Dog examines the state of free speech in America. There’s a film on the fraught era of school desegregation. And Mon 10/6 is the deadline to register for the upcoming November election. That’s the thing that might matter most.

 VEG FEST MOVES OUTSIDE

We were so happy to see Veg Fest return last year, after it took a four-year (!) pandemic hiatus. Previously, the growing event had moved from the CSU student center to the downtown convention center and now it’s moving again, to Tremont’s Lincoln Park.

Expect to see a mix of vegan food vendors, environmental organizations, climate-friendly vendors, animal rescues, and government agencies, such as the Board of Elections, where you can register to vote for people who don’t support bailing out failing coal companies with tax dollars. And you can bring a blanket and enjoy your food as a picnic on the lawn.

POINT OF ORDER

 C. ELLEN CONNALLY

COUNTY COUNCIL PRESIDENT DALE MILLER’S LAPSE OF JUDGMENT

Unless Dale Miller has been living in a cave with his pet turtle, I assume that he was aware of the controversy surrounding Charlie Kirk and the way his death should or should not be acknowledged. People lost their jobs over commenting about Kirk’s political opinion—some for merely repeating his words. Cleveland’s Fire Chief was placed on paid leave after reposting a political cartoon critical of Kirk.

So why did Miller decide that a moment of silence for Kirk was a hill he needed to die on? Why bring up the subject? Kirk had no nexus to Cleveland or Cuyahoga County Council. Miller had to have known that with the bipartisan and multi-racial makeup of the Council, there were varying views. Why rock the boat?
