Transformer Station Opens

Since breaking ground last year on an ambitious re-use of an old electrical transit substation and an audacious addition, Fred & Ruth Bidwell have been hard at work creating a venue in Ohio City to exhibit their own collection of contemporary photographs under the auspices of the Bidwell Foundation. The 8000 square foot museum will be programmed by the Bidwells for 6 months of the year, and by the Cleveland Museum of Art the other 6 months.

The project is finally seeing the light of day, so it’s appropriate that their inaugural exhibition be entitled, “Light of Day: Photographs from the Collection of Fred & Laura Bidwell.” An overview of the state of contemporary photographic arts, the show includes recent acquisitions to their collection featuring large-scale digital images, conceptual work, and photos that examine the accelerating developments in technology and human perception. In addition, Bidwell Projects has commissioned “Bridging Cleveland,” a series of dramatic, large-scale panoramic images of landmark Cleveland bridges by Vaughn Wascovich (above) created by his hand-made pinhole panoramic camera.
