Tift Merritt at the Beachland

Tue 2/5 8:30PM

Some artists who get mountains of gushing press really ARE worth hearing.

In the eleven years since she released her debut album Bramble Rose, millions of words have been expended praising Tift Merritt, whose country- and soul-tinged, NPR-friendly songs and clear, delicate vocal style appeal to those who write about music. With the release of her fifth album Travelling Alone last October, Merritt added to her wide-ranging catalog of introspective songs, informed by the changing cultural landscapes she’s inhabited: North Carolina, where she grew up and went to college; Paris, where she spent some time writing after her second album; and New York City, where she lives now.

Tuesday’s a good day for a show like this that’s more cerebral than sweaty. The primarily seated show at the Beachland Ballroom starts on Tue 2/5 at 8:30 with a set by David Wax Museum, a Boston-based folk group with a Mexican flavor. Tickets are $16 advance, $18 at the door.
