For the 9th year in a row, kids are getting a taste of what far too many Northeast Ohioans experience — homelessness. For one night, 30 youth fellowship members at Lakewood Congregational Church, joined by kids from St. Peter’s, will set up and sleep outside in a “box city” and panhandle for donations.
“For 18 hours, our mid-high and high school youth will experience what it feels like not to have warm shelter or a comforting meal on a cold winter night,” says LCC’s Rev. Mark Thomas. “It’s a true reality check, for both the kids and the community donating to the cause.”
Funds raised will support HandsOn Northeast Ohio and the 2013 Homeless Stand Down, as well as Family Promise, an org helping homeless families become self-sufficient. Drive by 1375 West Clifton in Lakewood, check out the brave souls and make a donation.
