Indie/punk/noise rock bastion Now That’s Class isn’t where you’d expect to find a lute player schooled in Renaissance and Baroque music like Jozef van Wissem. But the fact that his latest recording is his third collaboration with unsettling minimalist indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch is a clue that van Wissem isn’t your typical concert-hall performer.
He uses vintage compositions as raw material for exploration — to be stripped down, cut up, flipped, processed, and otherwise transformed. Another clue: his show at NTC is presented by Bent Crayon Records, which has specialized in making obscure experimental and electronic music available in Cleveland for over 17 years. Cellist Holy Kind Of, Zachory Hay, and Akron-based duo Modulated Tones. Admission is $8.
