The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra is going for crowd appeal with its next showcase, the self-explanatory “Jazz and Other Genres, Classic Tunes, Contemporary Styles” at PlayhouseSquare’s Hanna Theatre. It’s an evening of jazz arrangements of familiar rock, country, R&B and blues tunes, plus compositions and arrangements by CJO’s associate artistic director Paul Ferguson and bassist Dave Morgan.
The thirty-year-old CJO is a mix of some of the area’s most respected veteran players and talented young guns, led for the past few years by 34-year-old artistic director/trumpeter Sean Jones, who has acquired international reputation through his recordings and his stint with Wynton Marsalis Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. There’s a pre-show talk at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25-$45.
