Fri 2/8 @ 9PM
From the outside and the small tavern in front, the Winchester looks like any of a hundred other Lakewood bars. You’d never guess there’s a spacious listening room — aka the Winchester Music Hall — in the back and that it’s regularly graced by touring acts, many of international renown.
In its ten years as the Music Hall, the club has carved out a niche for itself with acts that appeal primarily to an older audience: blues artists like Shemekia Copeland and Lil Ed and the Blues Imperials, classic rock bands like Wishbone Ash and Savoy Brown, and singer-songwriters like Seth Glier, as well as the occasional prog-rock group, jazz act or comedian. With lots of seating, it’s a welcoming place for music fans who are long past the stage of wanting to stand and be jostled.
The club is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a show by Tuck & Patti, a husband-and-wife duo who’ve been meshing their talents for three decades. He’s a virtuoso guitarist; she’s a jazz-inflected vocalist who writes, arranges and produces the material they perform. Their music can be complex, but it’s mellow enough to be popular with “smooth jazz” radio stations. Tickets are $25.
