Fri 3/1 @ 7PM
The Callaloo Café and Bar on Waterloo, formerly the Arts Collinwood Café, has been open for a few weeks now, exuding an aroma that smells reassuring like chicken soup and the sounds of the jazz ensembles you can make out through the front window.
But the café, which specializes in food from owner Kelvin Cadiz’s native Trinidad and Tobago, along with random other world cuisines, will have its grand opening celebration from 7 to 9 tonight. There’ll be tropical drinks, a Caribbean menu, and music from the Panic Steel Ensemble — another Cadiz project. “Callaloo” is a real Caribbean dish; that it meshes so well with “Waterloo” must mean that this place was destined to be part of the street’s renaissance.
