Austin Americana Star to Play Nighttown

Sat 3/30 @ 8:30PM

Carrie Rodriguez took up violin as a kindergartner in Austin, Texas, and spent a year training at the Oberlin Conservatory in the mid ’90s. But she felt called to trade classical music for the Americana-rooted singer/songwriter music she performs now. And that violin is now a “fiddle.”

Rodriguez got her lucky break when she was mentored by veteran songwriter Chip Taylor, who wrote hits like “Wild Thing” and “Angel of the Morning.” That relationship continues on her just-released album, Give Me All You Got, for which Taylor helped her spin songs from the filaments of her personal experience. She’s quickly earning her place in the competitive firmament of Texas-spawned singer-songwriters. The album recently made it to no. 1 on the Americana Music Association chart.

She’s now taken to the road for a tour that brings her to Nighttown in Cleveland Heights. She’ll be accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Luke Jacobs. Tickets are $15.
