For a decade, the duo known as the Books were lauded in hipster circles for their elusive, impressionistic pastiches, which they sometimes called “collage music.” Their four albums were touchstones for a certain type of indie rock fan.
Nick Zammuto and Paul de Jong went their separate ways in early 2012, trailing a lot of accumulated good karma. Zammuto didn’t waste it. He quickly formed a band called Zammuto and released an album a few months after the Books were officially dead. The music’s a tad more concrete than the Books’, but it’s still full of the sonic noodlings and digressions Books fans loved.
Zammuto the band will be at the Beachland Ballroom for a primarily seated show, which tells you that these fans like to listen raptly. You’ll want to come early to hear one of Cleveland’s most dynamic young singer/songwriter/guitarists, Polina Kourakina. Toronto’s Snowblind are also on the bill.
Tickets are $12 in advance, $14 day of show.
