The “new folk” movement of the ’90s is no longer new. But many of the movement’s stars — most of them coming from the east coast — have become staples of a scene that always embraces acoustic artists performing with well-crafted, introspective songs.
New Jerseyite John Gorka preceded the new folk boom somewhat, falling almost precisely between it and the’60s folk boom, which produced artists who influenced him such as Eric Anderson and Tom Paxton. With a dozen albums since his 1987 debut, he’s got a rich, deep repertoire to draw upon.
He’s at the Kent Stage; tickets are $20.
