German jazz guitarist Leni Stern arrived in the U.S. in the late 70s to study at Berklee College of Music before moving to New York where her path intersected with cutting-edge musicians like Bill Frisell and Paul Motian. Her recording career stretches back more than 25 years and covers a lot of ground.
Her recent work, including her new CD Smoke No Fire, incorporates African musicians and sounds, recorded in Africa. When she plays at Nighttown, she’ll be accompanied by two Senagalese players, bassist Mamadou Ba and percussion Alioune Saye.
