Fiery Otep Shamaya, who fronts the band Otep, is one of those performers who inspires fierce loyalty among fans who identify intensely with her. Her open-wound style of songwriting and performance have a comforting appeal to kids struggling with issues of all kinds, the kind of kid who feels that she doesn’t fit in anywhere.
Shamaya also communicates with fans through her writing, artwork, and activism, giving them multiple points of connection with her. Her website’s called “Art Saves,” where she says “Art is the best way to say fuck you to reality.”
The band’s raging, brooding modern metal music stokes the requisite angst levels. They’ll be performing at Peabody’s with One Eyed Doll and Picture Me Broken opening. Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 day of show.
