A group of Cleveland-based organizations have joined together to create Literary Lots, a program that will be bringing stories from children’s books to life in several vacant lots in the city this summer. The Cleveland Public Library, LAND Studio, Ohio Writers Project, and Urban Strategic Solutions are working to identify two to four lots next to library branches in which artists will create environments based on a specific book. Each lot will then become a space for games, arts projects and educational programming.

On Sunday March 3, Literary Lots launched its Kickstarter campaign with an event at Ohio City Writers’ Lorain Road space. Kids and adults snacked, while the kids participated in interactive storymaking and hands-on art opportunities. The campaign’s goal is to raise $5,500 by March 30. In its first week, it’s already netted nearly $4,000.
