The six-member acoustic band Mountain Heart sprang from the bluegrass scene almost 15 years ago.
Since then, they’ve added and subtracted members. Musically, they’ve only added — reaching out to incorporate country, jazz, folk and jam rock into their fundamental bluegrass roots. There’s even a little bit of electric bass or guitar here and there, but instruments like banjo, mandolin and fiddle still play a key role in their sound. And in the purest bluegrass tradition, they don’t use drums.
The hard-working, heavy-touring band has released seven albums and been nominated for repeated for International Bluegrass Music Association awards.
Their music is a perfect fit for the rustic environment of Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Happy Days Lodge where they’ll be playing tonight. Tickets are $22.
