Rally to Reform Ohio Animal Laws at Public Square

Forrest the Bull Mastiff: Ain't It Good to Be Alive?

Mon 4/1 @ 7:30 AM

Are you an animal lover? Hopefully you are also a morning person. If so, Cleveland animal rescue group PAWS requests your presence on Public Square at 7:30 am at the Rally for Reform. The event’s goal is to focus attention on reforming Ohio’s woefully weak animal protection laws.

It’s tied in with the 9:30 am start of the federal trial of Raymone Clements, the man who shot a mastiff in Cleveland Heights’ Forest Hills Park last November and left him tied to a tree to die. He won’t be facing any animal cruelty charges, though. He initially faced several charges in county common pleases court including misdemeanor animals cruelty, but they were superseded by the more serious federal charges. Suffice it to say, this wasn’t this guy’s only bad deed.

The person chosen to adopt the dog, now named Forrest, once he was nursed back to health was Solon-based animal lover Robin Stone, a prominent area musician who’s released several jazz/soul/pop records on her own label and just recently disbanded her rock and roll show band Dirty Little Rockstars. Known as a hard-working go-getter, she’s using her new adoptee as the poster boy in the campaign for stronger laws against animal abuse.

Forrest will be there, looking forward to meeting you. Forrest T-shirts will be available with proceeds going to benefit the work of PAWS.

So come on down. Make a sign, bring your dog, bring your cat — ok, maybe not your cat because he likes to sleep in.

For more background on Forrest and how his luck turned around, go here. Then maybe you’ll join in helping turn things around for other animals.
