Rev. Run of Run-D.M.C. to Speak at Rock Hall April 3

Wed 4/3 @ 7:30PM

As rap’s first genuine supergroup, Run-D.M.C. blasted open the doors for the genre’s onslaught into the mainstream. Their self-titled 1984 debut was rap’s first gold record; their second, 1985’s King of Rock, was its first platinum one, and 1986’s Raising Hell was triple platinum. That’s the album that contained their collaboration with Aerosmith on a re-make of Aerosmith’s hit “Walk This Way.” It became a huge hit all over again, exposing millions of rock fans to hip hop for the first time.

In 2009, Run-D.M.C. was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That’s where Joseph Simmons aka Rev. Run — he’s a minister in real life — will sit for an interview with director of education Jason Hanley as part of its Hall of Fame series. It’ll take place on the Rock Hall’s lobby main stage at 7:30 pm Wednesday April 3. Tickets are free, but you’ve got to make a reservation. Members can do that starting Monday March 18 at 10 am; the general public can make reservations starting at 10 am Tuesday March 19.
