Few names evoke an image of suave elegance like that of Fred Astaire who, with Ginger Rogers, danced his way through a string of romantic comedies in the ’30s. They were light on plot, heavy on glamorous ambience — and unforgettable tunes.
He wasn’t known as a great vocalist. But during his career, Astaire introduced — and became indelibly associated with — songs by Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, George & Ira Gershwin, and Cole Porter.
Paul Hoffman will be performing a selection of those tunes when he brings his revue “Top Hat, White Tie and Tails … The Music of Fred Astaire” to the Cuyahoga Public Library’s Beachwood branch. He’ll be backed by pianist Matt Skitzki and bassist Alan Gleghorn.
It’s free, but reservations are a must: call the library 216-831-6868.
