Pat Dailey Gets Summer Started in Akron

Sat 5/4 @ 8:30PM

The ferry to Put-in-Bay started running this weekend, and soon summer will be in full swing in the Erie islands. And nothing says summer on Put-in-Bay like Pat Dailey, who’s doing a show “in town” at the Tangier Cabaret to get people in that warm weather state of mind.

Dailey has been king of South Bass Island since the mid-70s, when he arrived in Northeast Ohio. He created the template for island performers: a mostly one-man acoustic-based performance mixing bawdy songs about sex and drinking with sentimental songs about the beauty of the Erie shore and the joy of leisurely days spent on the water.

Since then, a whole cadre of folkies, blues artists, and rockers have reinvented themselves in Dailey’s mold to entertain the fun-seeking hordes at Put-in-Bay. But Dailey, now 72, says he has no plans to retire anytime soon.

Dailey’s first show at the Boathouse on the island is May 25. Meanwhile, all tickets to his Tangier show are $15. And yes, you can wear that crazy hat you bought last summer.
