Dreamscape

We are making dreams come true. While issues with our region persist, most due to a lack of civic leadership and vision, we are amazed weekly with the hard work, courage, confidence and, especially, imagination on display amongst our brightest and fiercest artists and entrepreneurs. Because of their determination, our region will forever be improved.

Nicole Hennessy, the “Gypsy Queen,” heroically brings her poetry together with ten artists and a dozen poets at Good Goat in Lakewood. Ingenuity’s annual funraiser is dubbed Dreamer’s Bal to mirror the city’s reawakening and our latent dreams and hopes – we hope to see you there at the Hamilton Collaborative. Deanna Dionne reimagines car crashes as jewelry at her rebranded Street Glass Studio open studio event. Bloom Bakery on Public Square trains the underemployed funded by their Signature Chef series, this week featuring Jeremy Lisy of Green City Growers.

Give a listen to this week’s CoolCLE PODCAST featuring an interview with Jay White of Quire Cleveland, a calendar of upcoming events, plus new music from British/Cleveland singer-songwriter Guy Snowdon, and A Mother’s Love, by Erised from Chardon. Dream it, then be it. –Thomas Mulready

On this episode, we’re speaking to Jay White, artistic director of Quire Cleveland, about its special concerts at Lakewood Congregational Church on Sat 5/4 and St. Peter Catholic Church in Cleveland on Sun 5/5 in tribute to the ultimate mother – the Virgin Mary.

And, with Mother’s Day coming up Sun 5/12, we have mother-inspired music from Cleveland’s Erised and Guy Snowdon.

Local writer Nicole Hennessy was dubbed “Gypsy Queen” by her uncle and it stuck. So she’s using it as the title of her first book of poetry and the theme of the event she’s planned surrounding its release, taking place at Lakewood’s Good Goat Gallery Sat 5/4

Vision of a Gypsy Queen will not only feature Hennessy but a dozen other poets reading their works, and ten artists interpreting the work in various media. The freewheeling event is part of her mission to make poetry more approachable. “One of the things I really want to work on this year is making the poetry community more a part of the larger arts community,” she says.

Going into its second decade, the Ingenuity Festival has been increasing its commitment to community creativity. That includes its annual “Bal” benefits, which take on different themes each year and invite the public to its space in the Hamilton Collaborative to explore and discover.

This year’s theme is dreams. “[The] Dreamscape theme is an exploration of our city as it has enjoyed this reawakening,” says Ingenuity Cleveland artistic director Emily Appelbaum. “The idea is that we have all shared subconscious hopes and dreams that were latent or ignored. This is a chance to see those yearnings come to life.” Sat 5/4.
