It seems like rock fans everywhere are getting a soul jones these days, as more and more bands are looking back to the classic soul of the ’60s and ’70s for inspiration.
Chicago’s JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound, who call themselves “post-punk soul” and say they’re “like Otis Redding fronting the Stooges,” are among that number. They promise “sweaty on-the-one workouts, dance-punk booty shakers, garage rock thump humps, and aching R&B ballads.”
Fans of Akron’s Wesley Bright & the Hi-Lites will want to check them out when they come to the Grog Shop on the heels of their third album Howl. We the People opens. Tickets are $10.
