Cleveland’s Seafair Drops Debut EP at Grog Shop

Sat 5/18 @ 9PM

Cleveland’s Seafair has been playing around town only about a year and a half, but the buzz has snowballed rapidly — and understandably.

Singer/keyboard player/frontwoman Chayla Hope, cellist Tara Hanish, violinist Andrea Belding, drummer Ryan Kelly, and guitarists Joshua Riehl and Mike Flaherty have crafted a sound that’s anthemic and lavishly melodic, referencing bands like Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins. But it’s also full of nuance, delicate tonal colors, and pensive moments that contrast nicely with the sweep of their more grandiose moments.

Seafair has two EPs planned for this year. The first, Paintings, drops this week at a release party at the Grog Shop. Their fans already know their music well, as shown by the way people down front mouth the lyrics as the band plays. But finally having having music to share with those who haven’t heard them yet should dramatically expand the band’s reach. Look for the buzz to grow deafening in the upcoming year.

Goodmorning Valentine, Humble Home, and Noon open the EP release show. Admission is $8.
