Guitarist Dan Reed Returns to Cleveland

Sat 5/25 @ 9PM

Dan Reed was the thinking fan’s guitarist in the late ’80s/early ’90s rock scene dominated by speed-demon shredders, injecting taste and intelligent phrasing into his music.

His Portland Oregon-based band, the Dan Reed Network, released three major-label albums during that period, demonstrating via slots opening to David Bowie, the Rolling Stones and UB 40 that his music reached audiences well beyond the “hair metal” of the mainstream rock scene.

He left active playing by the mid-’90s, spending a decade starting a record label, doing some acting and scriptwriting, and running a nightclub.

But a yearlong stay in India and later uprooting himself to Israel in the mid-2000s revived his passion for music, adding a host of new influences to his sound. He’s now based in Paris, where he’s started a new record label and begun to release solo records. His new Signal Fire is a follow-up to 2010’s Coming Up for Air. He returns without the baggage of having been a trend-follower in the first place.

Back on the road, he’ll perform at Wilbert’s with Gary Dacanay and Liza Bundy opening.
