In the last year, the intersection of Euclid, Ford and Mayfield on the Case Western Reserve campus has become a bustling hub of dramatic new buildings, hip new hangouts and hot new retail. But just a half block north of Euclid, time has stood still on brick-paved, block-long Hessler Street.
The annual Hessler Street Fair is a weekend that celebrates the street’s less flashy, more neighborly values. It’s the ultimate hippie hangout, where you’ll encounter everyone from toddlers still in diapers to doddering gray beards sporting tie-dyed clothing and Grateful Dead logos.
You’ll also find two solid days of mostly local, mostly rootsy music from 11 am until dark. Many of the most beloved performers return year after year, creating a sense of familiarity that’s comforting to those who think things are changing too fast.
Saturday’s lineup ranges from internationally noted jazz sax player Ernie Krivda to traditional folksinger Gusti to the horn-driven Revolution Brass Band, with jam band JiMiller Band closing the night.
Sunday’s schedule is dominated by reggae, with Jah Messengers, Outlaws I & I, I-Tal, and a closing set by Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band.
The complete music schedule is below. The festival, which also features food, poetry readings, vendors, and booths sponsored by peace and social justice groups, is free.

I wish they’d go back to the more diverse music they used to have. It seems all the same the last 3-4 years or so. A day of reggae???? please. wheres the classical and the avante-garde and …. still fun just not as interesting.
