Singer-Songwriter Lili Roquelin Returns to Her Former NE Ohio Base for Show at Brothers Lounge

Sat 5/25 @ 6:30PM

Queens-based singer/songwriter Lili Roquelin is one determined young woman. She left her native Toulon in southern France and moved to the U.S. in the mid 2000s to further her musical career.

She ended up in Northeast Ohio where she joined forces with determined, long-lived but struggling Akron metal band Hate Dies Hard, providing their missing piece. She recorded the 2006 CD Neverending Sundown with them, and later did some work with another local heavy music dude, Disengage bassist Sean Bilovecky, before decamping for New York.

That history is misleading though. She’s not remotely a hard rock or metal performer. Her newer material puts the focus firmly on her heartfelt lyrics.

Since moving to New York, she’s been busy writing, recording, performing and promoting her music, adding an airy, delicate trip-hop flavor to her sound. And on the track “Thank You” from last year’s Beautiful Sun, dark-toned strings embellish her piano on a tune that puts her stylistically somewhere between Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan.

She’ll be back in Cleveland at the Brothers Lounge wine bar to showcase all that new music. She says she’s excited about playing the bar’s baby grand piano. So you know she’s come a long way from her hard-rockin’ days.

Admission is free.
