What do veterans of the area’s indie/underground rock scene do for fun once they’ve left their regular playing days behind them?
Akron quartet The Low Country tackles classic honky-tonk tunes, paying tribute to such cornerstones of classic country as Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard and Buck Owens.
The Low Country features some familiar figures from the Akron music scene. Drummer Danny Basone owned downtown rock showcase room the Lime Spider, which closed in 2007, and vocalist/guitarist Mike Purkhiser was in ’80s power pop trio The Action. Along with vocalist/guitarist Doug Kleiner and bassist Scott Marshall, they recall when country was country, not reworked arena rock a la Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney.
They’ll perform at Akron’s Lockview — which occupies the old Lime Spider space.
