Richie Furay certainly has a good claim to being one of the pillars of country rock.
The 69-year-old vocalist/guitarist/songwriter from Yellow Springs, Ohio founded the short-lived but influential Buffalo Springfield with Steve Still, Neil Young, Dewey Martin, and Bruce Palmer.
He went on to form Poco in the late ’60s, leaving that band in the mid ’70s to start the Souther Hillman Furay Band with songwriter J.D. Souther and ex-Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers member Chris Hillman. He then went on to a solo career.
Although Furay eventually gave up music in favor of ministry, he continues to perform occasionally, including as a solo artist, drawing on the vast repertoire of his multiple bands.
He’ll be at the Kent Stage.
