Patterson Hood is best known as a member of the Drive By Truckers, the roots rock/alt-country ensemble he co-founded in 1996.
But a couple of years ago, he found himself with a very personal set of songs that called for a different approach. He assembled a stellar set of players including alt-country vocalist Kelly Hogan and legendary Muscle Shoals bassist David Hood (his father) to record the songs, which he released last fall under his own name as Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance.
Now he’s put together a band called the Downtown Rumblers to take these songs on the road. They’ll be at the Beachland Ballroom. T. Hardy Morris open.
