Clarence Bucaro returned to his native northeast Ohio this past spring, opening to another singer-songwriter Griffin House.
He’s back at the same venue — the Beachland Tavern — this time as headliner.
Bucaro began collecting laudatory reviews for his soulful music, which earned him copious comparisons to Jackson Browne and Van Morrison, while still living here.
But after releasing his 2002 debut, Sweet Corn, he moved to New Orleans, following his NOLA-based producer Anders Osborn. He’s now settled in Brooklyn, NY, but his music still has a Midwestern sensibility.
It’s all over his new album, Dreaming From the Heart of New York, again produced by Osborn. Tracks like the title track and “Curtis Mayfield” are sparse and confessional, with his acoustic guitar providing the main support for his open-hearted musings about how life has been for him lately. The soul workout “Let Me Let Go of You” and the very Jackson Browne-like midtempo rocker “Malibu” offer a change of pace.
It’s well worth your time to catch this talented homeboy. Cleveland singer songwriter Matt Harmon opens.
Tickets are $10.
