Three Austin Bands at Mahalls for Bad Racket Summer Series

Sat 6/22 @ 9PM

Can’t make it down to Austin, Texas? Bad Racket Recording is bringing Austin to Cleveland.

As part of its summer concert series, Bad Racket has lined up three Austin artists for a show at Mahalls 20 Lanes.

Singer/songwriter Shakey Graves performs stripped-down country/folk/blues. He eschews the wizened, old-black-man tone affected by so many young performers, singing in a gentle, boyish voice. It gives his simple, lilting tunes a relaxed and natural feel.

In contrast to Shakey Graves’ one-man show, Austin’s Wild Child is a six-member ensemble that mixes classical instruments like cello and violin with folk instruments like ukulele and banjo, and features strong vocal harmonies. Trio Marmalakes offers still another contrast, playing tuneful folk pop.

The three bands are currently on tour together on what they’re calling their Outside City Limits tour.

They’ll be joined in Cleveland by Carrie Ryan, an earnest local acoustic guitarist/singer/songwriter.

Admission is $10.
