Royal Vasa is a new Akron-based indie rock band, in existence only since the beginning of this year— kind of.
But the members — vocalist/guitarist Austin Maruna, bassist Brad Carley, and drummer/keyboard player Brian Piper — played together previously under the name Roscoe for four years. So they’re really just transitioning to a fancier name.
But the trio is hitting the ground running under the new name. They headed into Cleveland’s Lava Room this spring to record their debut EP, serving notice that they’re out there.
That EP, Wolves, will be available at the band’s CD release show at Musica. Tickets are $9.99. Fritz Pollard and Two of a Kind open.
