Oberhofer carried a double hit of indie hipsterdom. They’re based in — you guessed it — Brooklyn.
And they’re not really a “they” but a “he”: Brad Oberhofer. At least instead of inventing a band name, he’s reached back to the metal tradition of Van Halen, Dokken, Dio, and numerous others, and given it his own name.
Oberhofer moved to New York from Tacoma to study at NYU. There he launched the “band” in 2008. His music has gotten plenty of attention, including an appearance on David Letterman. His 2012 album Time Capsules ii was produced by U2 producer Steve Lillywhite and released on SONY distributed Glassnote Records, whose roster also includes Phoenix and Mumford and Sons.
His music clearly has grand ambitions too, aspiring to be morose and anthemic, “indie” and arena-ready at the same time.
But they/he won’t have a chance to show their/his arena side in Cleveland. He’ll have to scale down for his show at the Beachland Tavern as part of Bad Racket Recording’s summer concert series at various venues around town. Guess the Q was booked.
Cleveland’s Meridian and Columbus’ Alert New London open.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
