Yeah, our river caught fire decades ago… but it also sparked the modern environmental movement. Since 2001 people from across NEO have joined up to remember the 1969 fire and raise consciousness of issues affecting our lake and river ecosystems at the annual Great Lakes Burning River Fest.
Talk to people about regional environmental issues, eat fresh food from local farms, check out an Instrument Petting Zoo, hear music from 25+ bands, view a ceremonial lighting of floating pyres, and drink some Christmas Ale all on lovely Whiskey Island.
Runs 6 – 11pm both days.
