Supposedly the second most popular subject matter on the Internet is cats. (The first is porn).
New Jersey-based singer/songwriter Sarah Donner is a cat lover and kitten fosterer who cleverly exploited that fact in her video for her song “Treeline.” It features a blue-eyed, black and white kitten not doing much of anything but looking at the camera and being adorable.
And although her bio says she has “embraced the cat lady inside her” and her label is called CatLady Records, her music’s no mere gimmick. Her adept guitar playing supports trilling vocals that at first listen sound more lightweight than they are. Although there’s wry humor in her work and a sense of fun and occasional goofiness in her singing, there’s an underlying gravity there too.
She’ll be at the WInchester with local singer-songwriter Claudie Schieve opening. Tickets are $7.
