Cleveland’s The Modern Electric Headlines Bad Racket Show at the Grog Shop

Sat 7/27 @ 9PM

You’re going to see some dewy young faces at the Grog Shop if you go to the Bad Racket Recording showcase there headlined by Cleveland quartet The Modern Electric.

The young group is catnip to teenage girls, with lead vocalist/pianist Garrett Komyati’s dark good looks and sweet but ever-so-slightly edgy vocals inducing sighs.

That’s not to say the band doesn’t deserve the buzz and the crowds it draws. Komyati and his bandmates, bassist Matthew Childers, drummer Michael O’Brien, and guitarist Holden Lawrence produced what they call “cinematic pop,” with strong, infectious melody lines and lovelorn lyrics just on the right side of too earnest.

The bill will also include Columbus’ WayYes, Cleveland’s Nonaphoenix (folkie Jakub Andrew), and female Canadian duo called Sidney York that features an opera singer and a bassoonist.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
