Ohio City Stages Introduces Honduran Musician Aurelio Martinez

Wed 7/17 @ 7:30PM

The Cleveland Museum of Art-sponsored Ohio City Stages weekly series of free world music concerts — every Wednesday in July — continues with Honduran singer/songwriter/ guitarist Aurelio Martinez.

Martinez blends music from his native Garifuna culture, with its African and Caribbean native roots, with contemporary pop music influences.

That’s made it accessible to a wider audience, as has the series of recordings he’s made since he released Garifuna Soul in 2004. His latest album, 2011’s Laru Beya, came out on Real World Records, the label founded by Peter Gabriel.

The 7:30 concert will be followed at 9:30 by the outdoor screening of two documentaries: Chewing Gum and 2 into 1.
